Community Outspeak

Beagles & Buddies Community Outspeak is a method of teaching that instills in others compassion, kindness and respect for all life. Beagles & Buddies has an active education program for all age levels. As part of our work to promote humane treatment of animals, our education program is a vital link to the community.

We offers tours of our shelter to youth groups, scout troops, service clubs, etc. Participants will have a chance to interact with resident animals before touring our animal shelter. Small groups may be taken into the veterinary hospital depending on the day's activities.

Service Clubs If you are working on your coming year's speaker schedule consider Beagles and Buddies as a resource. Select staff members can present to your service club a program on Community Outspeak, volunteering or animal issues.

How to Request A Program All programs and presentations are offered at no fee, donations are always welcomed. To schedule a program or series of presentations you can contact by calling (626) 444-9664 or emailing a request form to beagles@beaglesandbuddies.com. Please plan at least one month in advance. Confirmation will be sent.

B&B visits Gabrielino High School

Resident dapple mini-dachshund, Dapper, along with B&B graduate, Tinkerbell, visited the Environmental Science Club at Gabrielino High School on 10/28/03. They were accompanied by B&B's humane education coordinator, Kathy Fuller (above).

One of the co-presidents of this important club is a long time B&B volunteer. Jennifer is seen below with Dapper and fellow member, Lisa. These social justice dachshund ambassadors brought along two guinea pigs from the Orange County Cavy Haven to bring an awareness to club members concerning the plight of thousands of rescue animals in the LA area and to promote responsible pet guardianship with an emphasis on spaying/neutering.

A big thanks goes out to the club for donating to the worthy cause of protecting our furry friends who don't have a voice of their own...

Lincoln Training Center Goes To The Dogs...

Kathy Fuller recently presented a research study which she conducted on the B&B collaboration with Lincoln Training Center(LTC) at the International Conference on Civic Education Research held in New Orleans, Louisiana. This conference was sponsored by the Center for the Study of Participation and Citizenship.

Kathy's two part case study described this program which provides employment opportunities with adults hired through LTC. The second part of this case study was based on interviews with participants and supervisors from both B&B. This was shared with other researchers from around the world. During the trip, Kathy even had time to bond with a friendly alligator and hear the haunted tails (tales) of N'awlins...
